Six Flags America Becomes First Certified Autism Center Park in DMV Area
Six Flags America in Bowie, Maryland, has made a groundbreaking announcement as the DMV area’s first certified Autism Center Park. This certification comes after receiving accreditation from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards, showcasing their commitment to serving guests with autism and sensory sensitivities.
The park has implemented various measures to ensure a more inclusive and accommodating experience for all visitors. This includes sensory sensitive days where the park will be quieter, with minimal announcements and music. Additionally, certain rides with high noise levels, such as the Fireball, will not operate on these days.
Furthermore, Six Flags America has trained over 85% of their staff in autism awareness and has introduced free noise-canceling earphones for guests. They have also developed a special harness to provide enhanced protection for individuals who may not typically be able to use the rides.
Park President Rick Howarth expressed excitement about the changes, stating that more families will now be able to enjoy the park. The park has also added signage on rides to inform guests of potential sensory impacts and will provide details on their website for visitors to register for these new enhancements.
Overall, Six Flags America’s dedication to creating a more inclusive environment for individuals with autism is a significant step forward in making theme parks more accessible to all.
