Multiple Threats Prompt Evacuations at Charles Barrett Elementary School and Other DMV Schools
Students at Charles Barrett Elementary School in Alexandria, Virginia, faced a terrifying situation on Wednesday as multiple threats forced the school to evacuate. The day started with a threat that prompted the school to go into “secure the building” status, but quickly escalated when a bomb threat was reported in the vicinity of the school.
As a result, students were evacuated to a nearby apartment complex before being transported to Cora Kelly School for Math, Science, and Technology. However, the ordeal didn’t end there, as another threat was made at Cora Kelly School, leading to a second lockdown.
The events of the day caused confusion and fear for parents and students, with one parent expressing their concern about not being able to be there immediately for their child during the evacuation.
The situation was not isolated to Charles Barrett Elementary School, as other schools in the DMV area also faced threats on Wednesday. Watkins Mill High School in Montgomery County, Maryland, was placed on lockdown after a report of a person possibly in possession of a firearm. Similarly, Crossland High School in Prince George’s County went on lockdown after a report of an armed person, although no firearms were found.
The day culminated with a threat at George Washington Middle School in Alexandria, but thankfully, the all-clear was given shortly after. Despite the chaos, some parents praised the handling of the situation, noting that everything was in order when they arrived to pick up their children.
Police have not confirmed whether the threats at the various schools are related. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
