Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics Partner with Stackwell to Bring Financial Wellness and Investment Education Programs to the DMV Community
The Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics, along with Monumental Sports & Entertainment, have announced a multi-year strategic partnership with Stackwell, a digital investment platform aimed at eliminating the racial wealth gap. This partnership will bring financial wellness and investment education programs, scholarships, and other major activations to the Black community in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area throughout the 2022-23 season.
The collaboration will include hosting financial wellness and investment education programs at the MedStar Health Performance Center in DC’s Ward 8, as well as events at District E, the new esports and entertainment facility adjacent to Capital One Arena. Stackwell will also be the presenting partner of the Wizards’ Black History Month celebration in February 2023, with a focus on engaging Historically Black College and University students, faculty, and staff.
Jim Van Stone, President of Business Operations & Chief Commercial Officer at Monumental Sports & Entertainment, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that it is a perfect extension of the teams’ work in championing social justice and change. Stackwell’s mission to increase Black ownership of financial assets aligns with the teams’ commitment to addressing the racial wealth gap.
Trevor Rozier-Byrd, Founder and CEO of Stackwell, emphasized the importance of empowering the Black community in the DMV through investment education and participation in the financial markets. With the Washington D.C. region being the 6th largest Black consumer market in the country, the partnership aims to break down barriers to financial access and inclusion.
