Deadly Police Chase Ends in Fiery Crash in Washington, DC
The police chase that started in Anne Arundel County ended in tragedy on Tuesday as two people were killed in a fiery crash in southeast Washington, DC. The pursuit began after officers spotted a vehicle believed to be involved in multiple armed robberies across the DMV area.
The white car, matching the description of the vehicle used in several armed robberies in the region, was first spotted in Annapolis. U.S. Park Police then took over the pursuit, following the suspects through Prince George’s County and into Washington, D.C. The chase came to a devastating end when the suspects’ car crashed into a tree and burst into flames.
Chief Jessica Taylor of the U.S. Park Police described the scene as the vehicle moving at a high rate of speed before crashing and catching fire. Two individuals lost their lives in the crash, while a third suspect was taken into custody and transported to a hospital.
Authorities had been on the lookout for the suspects involved in violent armed robberies, including incidents at Truist Bank and Navy Federal Credit in Annapolis. Victims reported being robbed at gunpoint while conducting banking transactions.
Anne Arundel County Police Chief Amal Awad expressed condolences to the victims of these crimes, noting that there have been at least 40 reported armed robberies at banks in the region this year. A gun believed to have been discarded from the suspects’ vehicle was recovered near the crash site.
The community is urged to remain vigilant as law enforcement continues to investigate these incidents and bring those responsible to justice.
