Community Leaders and Members of Congress Address Gun Violence Crisis in Prince George’s County
The recent gun violence incident at Schrom Hills Park in Greenbelt, where five people, including two kids, were shot during an unsanctioned senior skip day in April, has sparked outrage and concern among community members and leaders in Prince George’s County.
Congressman Glenn Ivey, representing Maryland’s 4th District, highlighted the alarming frequency of mass shootings in the United States, emphasizing the urgent need for solutions to address this public health crisis. Dr. Bethany Strong, a trauma surgeon at University of Maryland Medical Systems, shared insights on a hospital-based violence prevention program that provides support to gunshot victims, including assistance with food, housing, job training, and counseling.
