Challenges and Trends in Job Searching and Hiring in India: Insights from Indeed Data
India’s Job Market: Employers Struggle to Fill Positions in Key Industries
India, known for its rapid economic growth, is facing a challenge in its job market as unemployment rates surge to 8%. Not only are jobseekers finding it difficult to secure employment, but employers are also struggling to fill positions in certain industries, according to recent data released by global hiring platform Indeed.
The most popular search terms used by recruiters in India in 2023 included sales, accounting, and nursing, indicating a high demand for talent in these areas. “Resume search is a proactive step that suggests other strategies haven’t been successful,” said Indeed in a blog post.
Sales emerged as the top search term by employers in India, accounting for 10% of all resume searches on the platform. This was followed by accounting, nursing, telecaller, and mechanic, each representing a smaller percentage of total searches.
Sashi Kumar, head of sales at Indeed India, explained that sales and accounting are high-demand sectors across various industries, leading to recruitment challenges. The healthcare industry, particularly nursing roles, also faces shortages as professionals seek opportunities abroad.
Telecalling and mechanic roles also ranked among the top 5 search terms in India, reflecting the growing demand for telecallers in the expanding services industry and skilled mechanics in the electric vehicle and manufacturing sectors.
With initiatives like “Make in India” promoting domestic production and indigenization, the need for skilled technicians and mechanics is expected to rise in the country. Other popular search terms among recruiters in India included business development executive, registered nurse, electrician, graphic designer, and PHP developer.
